Some 20 years ago Margery Gaffin, a special education teacher in the USA, noticed that people were constantly walking around either with rucksacks hanging off one shoulder or were groaning and twisting under the weight of a cumbersome and un-ergonomic shoulder bag.

Added to this observation was her frustration at being unable to find a bag that was in any way comfortable following recent back surgery... and boy had she shopped!

Now it just so happened that Margery was married to Irwin, one of the foremost leather craftsmen in the USA, who for over 25 years had been designing high quality leather bags for celebrities and multi-million dollar companies. So Margery suggested to Irwin that they should create the most comfortable bag in the world... A bag that could be worn by anyone, to go anywhere and do anything. A bag that would not give you neck-ache or a sore lower back. A bag that would be of the highest quality in terms of craftsmanship and material.

And so the Healthy Back Bag® was born; doctors and chiropractors were involved to determine just how the ergonomics of the bag could best reflect the requirements of the spine. Different sizes were created to cater for all manner of people and the incredibly intelligent internal and external pocket configuration that both spreads weight around the bag and organises your life was honed and refined.

Priscilla Chase first spotted The Healthy Back Bag when on holiday in Canada in 2002 and instantly knew she'd found a gem; here was a bag unique in both design and purpose –and did what it said it would on the tag. Priscilla subsequently set up the The Healthy Back Bag in the UK as a subsidiary of Ameribag in 2004. Under Priscilla's direction, The Healthy Back Bag has grown to be an iconic comfort-wear accessory, now an established brand in over 25 countries worldwide, its popularity growing every day; its teardrop shape identifiable for being honest, functional, original, – a little quirky, always fun.
