6 Questions with Jamie

For those who don’t know you, how would you describe what you do and what inspired you to start Travel Blog Jamie?

I’d describe myself as a travel journalist; I explore the world and document absolutely everything, bringing the audience with me on an immersive, informative, experiential journey. After 25 years teaching in secondary schools, I moved into this new career to open everyone’s minds to authentic travel experiences.

You cover everything from cruises and hotels to flights and Disney, what is it about travel that keeps you excited to explore and share your experiences?

I love everything about it, from the planning stages, the excitement of the journey, be it long haul flights, overnight train journeys, multiple sea days on a ship from one continent to another, to the exploration, wonder and surprise of a new destination. There’s beauty and awe around every corner, and nothing is experienced or felt the same way twice.

After years of reviewing and documenting your travels, what’s one thing you’ve learned that can make a holiday or journey that little bit better?

Whilst I fully embrace the importance and mystery of spontaneity, I always recommend at least a little research and planning. I would hate for my audience to miss out on a bucket-list experience they did not realise existed. And that’s where, I hope, my content can make a difference.

What’s the one thing you never travel without, and why?

My Tom Ford fragrances! They are my little luxuries, smell incredible, and every time I come home, each fragrance transports me back to so many different destinations and feelings.

As a friend and collaborator of The Healthy Back Bag Company, how do you think the brand and its bags fit into your approach to travel?

I travel very regularly and need (and want!) a bag that is light, practical, multifaceted and, very importantly, comfortable when I’m on my feet a lot. It also helps that Healthy Back Bags are very easy on the eye, indeed darn sexy, and you also stock my absolute favourite colours too. I feel a confidence when I wear your bags.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone planning their next adventure, what would it be?

Planning is a beautiful part of the experience - embrace it! A little research will go a long way. But when you’re on the road, listen to your body and heart. Make changes if you need to. It’s YOUR experience. Live it your way.
